ABWT Celebrates Victory Day of Bangladesh 2018

Over 200  Aberdonian bangladeshies   including locals, celebrated the national VictoryDay at the Hilton convention centre, Aberdeen.
The Aberdonian Bangladeshi community came together Sunday 16th December to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the national Victory Day.

Despite the cold weather, a crowd of over 200 people gathered to celebrate our Mohan Bijoy Dibosh including local MP and community personalities.

Bijoy Dibosh, or Victory Day, is celebrated on December 16 to commemorate the victory over the Pakistani forces in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 which formally concluded the Bangladesh Liberation War and ended Pakistani rule in what was then called East Pakistan.

The Victory Day programme was presented by Sharmina Wahida Begum and Mithila Banik.

The celebration started off with everyone singing the Bangladeshi National Anthem. To start off with there was an Art Competition for the kids ranging from ages 6 -15. The winners were announced at the end of the show and given their prizes.  This was then followed by speeches from Local MP, ABWT President and few of our local community personalities. The cultural programme included a variety of performances from Bangladeshi to Scottish to present our roots from both cultures.
